My Cooking Journey
Padmini Srinivasan
Growing up in Sri Lanka, the kitchen was always the heart of our home. The aromas of roasting spices, the sizzle of curries, and the warmth of shared meals shaped my earliest memories.
Learning from My Mother
My mother was my first cooking teacher. She didn't use measuring cups or written recipes - everything was done by feel, by taste, by intuition passed down through generations. I would stand beside her in the kitchen, watching as she ground spices on the stone, tasted curries for the perfect balance, and transformed simple ingredients into extraordinary dishes.
Preserving Our Heritage
When I moved abroad, I realized how precious these recipes were. They weren't just instructions for cooking - they were connections to my homeland, my family, and my culture. I began documenting everything, translating my mother's intuitive measurements into recipes that others could follow.
A Gift for Charity
This cookbook was originally created as a charity project, a way to share our culinary heritage while giving back to the community. The response was overwhelming - people loved not just the recipes, but the stories and traditions woven through them.
Sharing with You
Now, through this website, I'm able to share these recipes with an even wider audience. Whether you're Sri Lankan and seeking a taste of home, or someone discovering our cuisine for the first time, I hope these recipes bring you as much joy as they've brought to my family.
